When do you, feel safe?

This is a ongoing project, in which Mercedes teaches students how to melt bullets to make school bells. Each bell size will correlate to the number fatalities from school shootings in the US per year. For example, the year 2016, in which --- fatalities occurred, will be represented by a bell made from --- bullets. This project will give students a voice on the current crisis of school shootings in this country. Throughout the process, students will answer the question: When do you feel safe? This installation is currently on view at Montgomery College (2020). The project and installation will tour around the US until school shootings stop.
